about

“Kofun No Uta” and “Jyomon Doki Doki” both build immersive and escapist soundscapes around the fascinating Japanese tradition of ancient graves adorned with mysterious terracotta figures. On the former track, bold horn stabs give way to a sun-dappled melody laced with vibraphone and Koto (a traditional Japanese stringed instrument which Shigihara inherited from her Grandmother), while the latter conjures playful, celebratory images of the figures becoming animate and dancing around, with group vocals and Mauritian-inspired drum patterns.
